The Akshaya Patra Foundation
Every year approximately 3.2 million deaths are contributed to undernutrition. Specifically in India, 50% of childhood deaths are caused by malnutrition with nearly 27% of the world’s malnourished children living in India. Every day 8.2 million children across India are forced to participate in child labour in order to earn their food. That means 1 in every 11 children are deprived of education.
For this reason, our team at Leiho have decided to partner with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation in India, and launch our newest product of reusable tote bags. Our bags are ethically manufactured and each purchase goes towards providing 20 meals for children in need. By working to feed children one wholesome meal a day, we can make a vast change that will provide them with the nourishment and motivation they need to pursue an education for a greater future.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation, headquartered in Bengaluru India, has made it their mission to aim at countering malnutrition and supporting the right to education of socio-economically disadvantaged children. As a result, Akshaya Patra has implemented the Midday Meal Programme in government schools and government-aided schools. Classroom hunger has been proven to decrease cognition and effort in children, through this programme we are able to work together in our efforts to reduce classroom hunger.
In supporting our partnership with Akshaya Patra, your contribution will go towards the Midday Meal Programme and help decrease classroom hunger, increase school enrolment and attendance, reduce drop-out rates while enabling children to improve their education and support their aspirations of creating futures outside of the poverty cycle.
Every day we make decisions that impact the lives of millions of others. In these small decisions, we can see the beginnings of monumental change.
